Dear ____________________,
I am writing to you today to share my deep concerns about the state of our oceans and the life they support. The condition of the oceans directly impacts human life and health.
There are many environmental issues in our world today and the health of our waters is in a continuous crisis. We demand that our leaders tackle climate change, overfishing, plastic pollution and habitat destruction before there is nothing left for our children.
We cannot afford to kick this can down the road. The time for action is NOW.
Below are issues your constituents need you to take action on:
- RESTORE THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT
- Overfishing – devastating bottom trawling, wasteful bycatch, krill harvesting and habitat destruction that is destroying the ocean food web.
- Ghost Nets – discarded nets from commercial fishing vessels that entrap wildlife like whales, dolphins, turtles and other marine creatures.
- Outdated and unnecessary dams – like the 4 Lower Snake River dams that provide little power, starve endangered Orcas and block salmon entry to ancient spawning grounds, causing depletion in Chinook and other salmon populations.
- Single use plastics and pollution – we demand proper recycling across the country. Single use plastics are choking our waterways and killing marine life. Tire chemicals, specifically 6PPDQ, are highly toxic chemicals that must be addressed immediately.
- Climate change – rebuild, strengthen and enforce emissions and pollution control standards and shift to a green economy as soon as possible.
Respectfully,
